THERE is light at the end of the tunnel for the Primrose Drive Play Area after Melksham Town Council voted to pay for the much-needed repairs.
The play area was closed by Wiltshire Council in April due to safety reasons. At the time, Wiltshire Council was unable to say when the play area would be reopened and explained that they needed to investigate funding for the repair works.
At last week’s town council meeting, councillors decided to proceed with the repairs themselves after seeking quotes from various companies.
To reopen the play area, the town council have agreed to pay £3,820. At the meeting, Deputy Mayor of Melksham, cllr Jon Hubbard said, “We need to get that play area back open, it is sorely, sorely missed by the residents.”
Representatives from the town council met with Wiltshire Council this week to discuss their decision and were granted a licence to perform the works on Wiltshire Council’s behalf.
With the licence now agreed, work on the play area will begin as soon as possible, with the aim of hopefully having the play area open in time for the summer holidays.
