Two hundred and forty runners lined up in brilliant early evening sunshine on The Common in Broughton Gifford for the ninth running of the Great Chalfield 10K road race.
Organised by Stampede Sports the race took runners over a certified accurate ten-kilometre course passing both Holt Manor and Great Chalfield Manor on what has been described as the most picturesque 10K course in Wiltshire. Making light of the undulating course was Simon Gilbert of Devizes Running Club who improved on his third placed position from last year, to take victory in a time of thirty four minutes and nineteen seconds ahead of Joseph Donworth from Frome Running Club and Ian Barrett of Cirencester AC. Alex Harris and Joe Bowerbank supported winner Simon to take the Men’s team prize back to Devizes.
In the ladies’ race Zelda Ackerman from Royal Wootton Bassett had a close-fought battle in the finishing straight with clubmate Anel Neville and ahead of Clare Wood of Avon Valley Runners who along with Natalie Freeman and Jennifer Marlow took the Ladies Team prize..
Age group awards went to Ian Hackett of Swindon Striders (MV40); Ade Hurren of Corsham Running Club (MV50); Laura Midwinter of Corsham Running Club (FV40); Jackie Evans of Swindon Striders (FV50).
It is hoped that the event will have raised £1,800 for Broughton Gifford and Holt Scout Group.
