Melksham has a thriving Community Bus which offers a variety of services to all local people.
John Ruderman, co-ordinator for Melksham Community Bus explains, “Twice a week on Thursdays and Fridays we run shopping trips for those people who need assistance to get to the shops. This could be for pensioners or those who find themselves temporarily needing help.
“The easy access buses can pick you up at home and take you to a nearby town on Thursdays, or on Fridays to a Melksham supermarket. After you have done your shopping the driver will drop you back at home. All our drivers will help where they can with carrying bags and there is plenty of room on the bus for trolleys. There is no charge for this if you have a bus pass.
“Towns visited for shopping are Trowbridge, Chippenham and Devizes – market day in Devizes.
“To book a place to go shopping with us please contact the Tourist Information Office – 01225 707424 – or call in.
“In addition to this we also offer a series of day trips, most at weekends, but some are during the week
“These are advertised at the TIC, look out for our flyers at the TIC and other places.
“These days out are open to all, regardless of age, and go to variety of places.
“Examples of future trips coming up are shopping and sightseeing in Oxford, seaside trips to Swanage, Weston and Weymouth. Also coming up; Stratford on Avon, Frome Cheese Show, Cirencester, Marlborough Market, Wells and Clarks Village, Abergavenny and ready for Christmas, a shopping trip to Cribbs Causeway.
“The community bus can also offer hire of buses for clubs, groups and other organisations at reasonable rates. Please contact the TIC for more details. Tel. 01225 707424
