THE community is being asked to have their say about public toilet provision in the town centre.
Concerns about anti-social behaviour and drug use in the Market Place public toilets has prompted the town council to rethink its opening times.
Currently, the toilets are open from 6am to midnight, but it has been suggested that they close from 7pm, similar to other towns in the area, to reduce the unwanted behaviour.
However, before any decision is made, the town council is asking residents for their opinions.
As well as asking residents to consider what time the toilets in the Market Place are open, the survey also asks residents a number of other questions, including asking for alternative ideas about how to manage antisocial behaviour in the toilets; and if the town council should consider opening additional public toilets in Melksham.
Residents outside the town are also being asked to complete the survey.
Clerk for Melksham Without Parish Council, Teresa Strange says, “The parish council has recognised that residents of Melksham Without use the public toilets in town and as such, has funded 50% of the costs of the Market Place toilets since Wiltshire Council closed them some years ago, and the town council subsequently took on the running of them.
“It therefore is keen to make sure that the views are heard of all those that use them.”
