Sat. 1st Feb. DORSET & WILTS 1 NORTH Melksham 22 Calne 5
Melksham were hosts to Calne on a day where heavy winds affected the play of both teams. Melksham were eventual victors with a bonus point win 22-5.
A strong defensive effort from Calne, mixed with home team handling errors, denied Melksham from scoring tries from their early repeated pressure on the visitors’ line. Captain Nick Suter finally crashed over for the first points of the game to break the impasse. Calne, undaunted by the pressure, nicked a breakaway ball to level just before half time.
Both teams struggled for continuity until Matt Frere powered in to ease the home team ahead and start to build on the score. Luke Cador dotted down next after opening up the visitors’ defence. Callum Hurn slotted the posts for the extra points. With time ticking by in this combative game, Adam Davies found his way through the visitors’ defence for the final points of the day, securing the bonus point win for Melksham 22-5. David Dyke was awarded man of the match.
