Melksham Information Centre is managed by recently-appointed team leader, Andrea Smart, with a small, friendly team of knowledgeable volunteers who are happy to help in any way.
Located in Church Street, it is are open Monday to Saturday throughout the year.
Staff say, “Along with brochures about places to visit in this part of the world, there is a well-stocked shop selling stamps, maps, postcards, Melksham souvenirs, local crafts and the very popular Wiltshire honey. There is also a wide range of second-hand books from Barbara Cartland to, currently, a series on business management and finance!
“Tickets for various events in the town can be booked, as well as seats to London on the National Express – a somewhat speedier daily service than the original stage coach which ran from Bristol to London in days of yore! Time-tables for travel by both train and bus (including Bristol Airport) are also available, together with cycle and walking route brochures.
“Another service is provided by the door-to-door Thursday shoppers’ bus running alternately to Devizes, Trowbridge and Chippenham, bookable at the centre. Or, how about a day trip, perhaps to somewhere previously unknown to you? These tours which begin around Easter, include visits to different parts of the South West. Again, you can reserve your seat at the centre for a great trip in the company of your fellow travellers.
“So, next time you are in the vicinity, pop in if only to say ‘hello’, where you will receive a warm welcome.
“If you have three to four hours a week to spare, why not join the team of volunteers; you may be surprised at how much enjoyment can be experienced in helping the steady stream of customers who come through the door, from regular customers to visitors from all over the world. If you are interested, please contact Andrea on 01225 707 424 or call in at the centre.”
