Melksham Carnival Committee is already starting work on next year’s event, and they are looking for support from the community to help make it bigger and better than ever.
Following on from this year’s successful carnival, the committee is looking to grow the family fun day with even more stalls and more entertainment.
Committee member Christine York says, “We would love to build on this year’s success and have some more events next year. We are looking for people who would like to organise an event to take place at the family fun day.
“The tug of war, organised and sponsored by Melksham Town Sound, was very entertaining and went down well, so something that the general public can join in with would be great. A dog show, a vegetable or welly throwing maybe?
“Even an event during the year to raise much-needed funds to run the carnival would be welcome.
“If anyone has any ideas or has been to a similar event that they enjoyed, please let us know!
“We would also like to grow the amount of stalls participating, both business and charity. Perhaps you are a group or club that would like to have a stall at the family fun day to raise funds, a tombola, bottle stall or an original idea of your own.
“Don’t forget the carnival procession! This is a strong tradition that many families have enjoyed year on year. It is a great way to showcase your business, club or group. Or maybe you are an individual or family who would like to join in just for the fun of it.
“You just have to see the photos of the people who joined in this year to know they were having fun and many said they would be back next year. It’s not too early to have ideas and start designing.
“As you would expect, there is a considerable amount of time and energy involved in planning and executing these activities, not least the main event.”
Beth Dark, carnival secretary said, “We work as a team all year round to put on the best events possible but we do need help.
“We have a core committee to organise the events but we need more volunteer helpers on an occasional basis who would be happy to carry out ‘odd jobs’ now and again.”
