Melksham Walking Football Ladies’ team is enjoying a record-breaking season at a time when there is a boom in women’s football following England’s historic Euro 2025 victory.
The team currently sits an impressive 10 points clear at the top of the Wiltshire County League as they push to reclaim the title. They’re also leading the Gloucestershire FA League, with just one round remaining.
And in a landmark achievement, the team lifted the first-ever Wiltshire FA Ladies County Cup last month, edging out Chippenham 1–0 in a tense and well-contested final.
The team now turn their attention to the next round of the FA Cup, with an away fixture in Newton Abbot scheduled for September.
Looking further ahead, Melksham Ladies are preparing for their first campaign in the Somerset League, which begins in November.
“We’ve worked hard to secure our style of pass-and-move football and game management,” said club Captain Karen Broadhead. “The progress we’ve made reflects the ladies’ hard work and strong team ethic. May we finish the second part of the year as strongly as we’ve started it.”
Club Chair Russell Hillier added, “With momentum clearly on their side, expectations are high. With silverware already in the cabinet and more opportunities on the horizon, Melksham Walking Football Club Ladies continue to set the standard in women’s grassroots football across the region.”
Melksham Walking Football Club is a non-profit community organisation always looking for sponsorship and funding to support its teams and players. Anyone interested in providing such assistance can contact melkshamwf@gmail.com
