It was a superb start to the season of 2017 for Holt Bowls Club this week, with the winning of two games against two strong clubs under their belts.
First being the 3 Rink League against Chippenham Park. A closely-fought match that looked for a long time to go right down to the wire, managed to be successful of producing 10 points for Holt. Two Rinks, skipped by Chris Poole and Justin Davis found themselves nip and tuck after 5 ends with the scores being 3 – 3 and 6 – 5 respectively. But both rinks managed to secure the wins required, with Davis taking home the highest scoring rink. The same could not be said for the final rink skipped by Graham Archard, who found themselves 9 – 0 down after 7 ends. After a dramatic 8th end, Archard’s unit picked up a 4 which provided momentum to get themselves back into the game and getting level on the 17th end before kicking on and finishing up 21 – 17.

The second three rink league game of the week was a stronger result for Holt against North Wilts, where Holt collected a further maximum 10 points.
From the start Holt held control of this game. Rinks skipped by Ben Gadd and Pete Hardie got off to good starts (10 – 4 & 12 – 6), while the final rink skipped by Graham Archard showed no repeat of Monday’s slow start, racing to a 15 – 6 lead after 10 ends. All 3 rinks then stayed in control throughout the remaining ends, making sure that Holt came away with the maximum points on offer.
