The ladies of Spencers Melksham Bowls Club have won the Wiltshire county bowls ladies triple title. The club reports, “The ladies (team of Jenny Couch lead Marilyn Jay No 2 and Delia Godwin skip) had a great game.
“They outplayed the ladies of Box Bowls Club in a close-fought game played at the Avon Bowls Club on Saturday 28th July, winning 18-13. The day was a finals day for bowls Wiltshire ladies. Also played were the finals of the county fours, pairs and singles finals, which were spread over the whole day
“Although Spencers were the underdogs against a much-fancied Box triple (of Debbie Shadwell lead Sue Cook No2 and Alex Jacobs skip) the Spencers ladies played well together. One end, two-thirds of the way through the game, turned the game in their favour. Spencers were holding shot when a very good bowl by Box skip Alex Jacobs seemed to the turn game their way, when she picked up the jack to lie three shots. In reply, Delia Godwin played a blinder, that picked up the jack to take the end by one shot.
“The winning trophies were presented to the ladies by county President Dawn Edwards of Avon Bowls Club.
“The ladies now go on to the national finals at Royal Lemington Spa on August 13th. Well done ladies and good luck at the National Finals.”
