October’s exhibition at Melksham’s Art House Cafe introduces a new young artist and three who will be familiar to our regular customers.
All four have contributed a contrasting mix of land-and sea-scapes.
Organiser Pattie Lockett said, “Daniel Dix has not exhibited at the cafe before and we are delighted to welcome him. He studied art at A-level and then went on to read history at university. After graduating, he returned to painting in his spare time. Influenced by some of the great British landscape artists, he paints mainly in watercolour or oils.
“Michael Wilson was lucky enough to study under the famous John Constable, though it was actually John’s grandson who introduced him to oil painting a few years ago.
“Michael now paints land and sea-scapes in oil, acrylics and occasionally watercolour, and is a member of Lacock Art Group.
“Richard Bill taught art and design for many years at George Ward School and later at Trowbridge College. Now retired, he is able to concentrate on landscape painting in both oil and watercolour.
“You will recognise many local views and scenes in his paintings, which are very attractive and modestly priced, as he hopes simply to cover material costs. Visit his website at www.richardbill.20m.com
“Joy Jefferys was born near Salisbury and her childhood in rural Wiltshire continues to shape the way she sees our beautiful landscape. She depicts these scenes in watercolour in order to share her love of both architecture and the countryside.
“As well as her beautiful watercolour paintings, Joy also works with fabric to create magical figures with a Shakesperean character and funky fabric animals.
“Are you a local artist who would like to exhibit at the cafe? We are booking gallery space for 2017 and would be delighted to hear from you. Come into the cafe and fill in a ‘new artist’ form and you will be contacted as soon as possible to discuss dates. We look forward to hearing from you!”
