TWO 93-year-old women who became friends 88 years ago, have been reunited at Brookside Residential Home in Melksham where they now both live.
Joan Weeks and Gloria Hiscox became friends in 1925 when they started school together at the age of five.
Just before the Second World War, the pair would regularly meet up in London for tea. In 1940, when Gloria got married, Joan was her bridesmaid.
They have been close for many, many years, and both families have enjoyed many happy times together.
Both Joan and Gloria’s husbands died some time ago and they remained in close contact with each other albeit by telephone more recently. They have lived independently until both had to be hospitalised (in different hospitals) in the last six months.
Now they both 93 years old and are residents at Brookside in Melksham where they have settled in well and can always be found together as their unique friendship continues.
Gloria’s son Nigel said, “They were friends for quite a long time and were separated for a while, but now they’re back together again.”
