Line dancing group celebrates one year of community classes

A group bringing people together through line dancing in Melksham is celebrating its first anniversary.

Wild Ones Country Line Dancing runs classes in Melksham at Spencer’s Sport and Social Club, with other classes also running across Wiltshire.

Organiser Hannah Rush, also known as Lady H, said, “Reaching our first anniversary feels like a huge milestone, particularly after navigating our first summer and the challenges that come with running community classes. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has walked through the doors, supported us and helped Wild Ones grow during its first year.

“What started as a line dancing class has grown into a fantastic community of people of different ages and abilities.”

People attending the classes do not need to join with a partner. Hannah said, “Our classes are designed to be welcoming, relaxed and fun. You don’t need a partner or any previous dance experience – people can simply turn up, learn at their own pace and enjoy the music and atmosphere.

“Over the past year, we’ve seen people arrive at their first class feeling nervous and unsure, then become regular members, make new friendships and grow in confidence. For many, it has become about much more than learning the dances; it’s a social night out, a chance to exercise and somewhere they feel part of a community.”

The Wild Ones line dancing classes also help support Urban Dance Kru, a community project providing free street dance opportunities for children and young people.

Hannah said, “We wanted to create something where adults could enjoy themselves while also helping us give something back to younger people locally.”

Classes take place at Spencer’s on Wednesdays from 6pm to 6.45pm.
