AN empty shop in Lowbourne has been filled with paintings by local artists.
It is part of an initiative by Melksham Town Council to brighten empty spaces in the town and was initiated by town councillor Sue Brown.
Cllr Brown said, “The season of festivities and cheer was a good opportunity for an added bonus to the town while people come to see our wonderful lights. We wanted to bring even more colour to Melksham and also to re-enthuse artists to bring more art and culture into the community.”
The space will be a temporary exhibition space for as long as it is available, with displays changing every two weeks. The town council community development officer, Miriam Zaccarelli said, “We are very grateful to Henry King from Kavanaghs who has helped us secure use of the premises, and to Andrew Butcher, the landlord, who has given permission.
“If there are any other spaces in town that could be filled with art ,we would love to expand the project. Anyone who is interested can get in touch by calling the Town Hall on 01225 704187 or emailing miriamzaccarelli@melksham-tc.gov.uk.”
