A LOCAL author is celebrating the launch of her first book, a collection of short stories entitled ‘Put the Kettle on for a Strange Brew’.
Yvonne Nowakowski, who was born and bred in Melksham said, “This is my first book. I’ve often dreamt that I might one day write a book and maybe even publish, so this is a very exciting event for me and I still can’t believe that I’ve finally done it. Publishing was hard work as I had no idea how to go about it initially. However, I persevered and it was worth it in the end.
“The book is a collection of my short stories. They are of mixed genre, including comic, horror, sci-fi and fantasy. The title of the book takes its name from one of the stories in the collection entitled ‘Put the Kettle On’.
“The stories are also of mixed length. Some longer and some flash fiction length. Often, they have an unusual twist or idea to them. My aim as a writer is to entertain and surprise the reader.”
The cover for the book was created by her daughter Shelley Ashkowski, who also lives locally. The book is currently available for purchase at Amazon in both Kindle and paperback form.
More stories from Yvonne are on the way with a novella entitled ‘Curse of the Wise Woman’ in the pipeline.
