THE Melksham Makers’ Market returns to the Melksham Market Place on Saturday 31st July for what will be its fourth market of the year.
The market, now in its third year, was started by friends Sarah Hillman and Nicola Coleman. “Most people assume we’ve been friends for years and that we met at school, but actually we met at a craft market about four years ago!” says Sarah. “We started sharing a gazebo and travelling together to all the local craft markets and then one day started talking about whether Melksham could ever have its own craft market.”
Nicola says, “We approached Melksham Town Council who thought it was a great idea and the rest, they say, is history!”
The Melksham Makers’ Market supports a group of regular traders each month as well as welcoming new makers too. Two makers who have been trading at the market since its first ever market are Lyndsey Sturgess of Happy Hounds Bakery (www.facebook.com/lyndsey.happyhounds) and her sister Amanda, of Amanda Humphrey Ceramics (www.facebook.com/ amandahumphreyceramics).
“We love being part of the Melksham Makers’ Market”, says Lyndsey. “It’s fabulous that we have the opportunity to trade in our own town and meet lots of lovely people at the same time.” Amanda adds, “We feel really lucky that Melksham has its own craft market and are proud to be part of it.”
The Melksham Makers’ Market will be in the market place on Saturday 31st July from 9am – 2pm. For more details, please contact themelkshammakersmarket@yahoo.com
