IT’S been a busy summer for young Melksham Indie band, The Sunnies, following their battle of the bands win earlier this year. The band won a slot to perform on the main stage of local festivals alongside bands such as Reef and Scouting for Girls.
The band, made up of Jarrett, Lucas, Dan and Joe, aged 14 to 17 years old have played this summer at Chippenham Pride, as well as the main stage at the Minety and Nibley festivals, where Scouting for Girls and Reef also performed. And there is a chance for Melksham people to catch them on home turf as they will be performing at the Melksham Food and River Festival this weekend.
Drummer, Joe said, “The festivals were a great experience performing in those environments to big audiences – definitely hoping to do more next year!
“There’s been so many highlights from simply reading your band name in the green rooms to seeing the reactions from the audience to our songs. After performing on the main stage of Minety Festival it was fun taking over the Riverbank Studio’s acoustic stage and performing the set again with some improvisations. Being able to go backstage at Nibley Festival and chat with all the performers was also an amazing experience!
“We had really positive feedback from all of the audiences saying they enjoyed our energy on stage and catchy melodies. Our fan base is growing all the time, with the help of Nathan and Kiesha with their publicity and social media skills.”
Festival season may nearly be over but the band have more shows booked including the performance at Melksham Food and River Festival this Saturday, 2nd September at 3pm and then a fundraiser at Trowbridge RFC, also on the 2nd September.
“We will also be headlining one of the Future Sounds of Trowbridge gigs at The Pump in Trowbridge on 15th September which is really exciting,” added Joe.
