A LOCAL man is preparing to run the London Marathon next month in aid of Prostate Cancer UK.
Melksham’s Mike Dobbin will be running the world famous race for the first time on 24th April, in a bid to raise over £2,000 after his father suffered from the disease three years ago.
He ran the Bath Half Marathon earlier this month as part of his training, and has competed in races in Chippenham, Bristol, and Paris since starting running three years ago.
Mike said, “I’m really looking forward to the race – I ran marathons in Manchester and Bournemouth last year, which were both excellent, but I can’t wait to cross the finish line in London.
“I started running in 2013 to get fit and since then, I have finished five half-marathons and two full marathons. I’m running for the charity because my father was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Thankfully he was successfully treated and given the all-clear in 2014, and the support and advice from Prostate Cancer UK was first class.
“I’m just over the half-way mark of my £2,000 target, and am having a race night and a raffle at The Pig & Whistle on Saturday 2nd April.
“If any local businesses can donate products or services as raffle prizes, all donations would be gratefully received.”
