So here we are, another year over already and once more Melksham is resplendent in its amazing Christmas Lights.
We are so lucky here to have the wonderful Bloom Team who make the town look so lovely during the summer months and then for Christmas, the spectacular display put on by the ever-fantastic Melksham Christmas Lights team.
This year the wonderful Core Church team are again running the amazing Christmas dinner at the Assembly Hall. This team really is something special. They do, every year, what so many of us can only dream of doing. All power to their elbow, you are all wonderful and we are so fortunate to have you as part of our town.
Melksham has seen hundreds of new residents move into the town during the past year and I would like to say welcome to all of you. You are very welcome; this is a special town and we are delighted that you have chosen to make it your home.
Without doubt, the best part of this job over the past months has been getting to meet so many people across the town who do so much for our town. We are so lucky to have so many extraordinary people here and as ever I extend my thanks, and the thanks of a grateful community to everyone who in any way contribute.
For many, 2019 has been an exciting year full of new opportunities, excitement, success and they will have many happy memories. Hooray! We should celebrate when good things happen, and I hope that all of you who have special things to remember will cherish those memories and hold them dear for years to come.
For others, the last year may have brought challenges and events that were less welcome. It can be incredibly hard as we are surrounded by people celebrating and we are in our own bubble of misery. It’s not that anyone wants to be miserable and certainly not that they want others to be, it’s just that right now, that’s where they are. If you know someone who is struggling then do me a favour, give them a hug, tell them you love them and be the friend they need you to be.
Whatever Christmas brings for you I hope you have wonderful time. And my ask for you (as there is always an ask isn’t there!), Make a new friend. Find someone in our wonderful community, maybe someone who has recently moved here, maybe someone who lives alone nearby, or maybe someone who you know who could just do with a friendly face. Make a new friend and help continue and grow the wonderful community that is Melksham and where it is a singular honour to be Mayor.
Merry Christmas and have a brilliant 2020.
Mayor cllr Jon Hubbard.
