MELKSHAM boxing prospect Megan Redstall says she can’t wait to show what she’s capable of as she prepares to make her professional debut next month.
Megan, who is based at Mark Kent’s Contender gym in Melksham, is set to make her first appearance as a professional on Neilson Boxing’s Fight Town show on Saturday 18th September.
The show, which is taking place at Swindon’s MECA, will feature a variety of talent from the county including former Commonwealth cruiserweight champion Luke Watkins, as well as fellow debutants Connor Gray and brothers Billy and Nigel Harris.
“I’m really looking forward to making my debut and I’m grateful for the opportunity,” said Megan.
“I’ve been looking to make my debut for a long time. I was meant to fight in April as of last year but due to coronavirus that obviously didn’t go ahead.
“Ever since then I have just been doing constant training to make sure I’m at the best of my ability.
“My debut has been a long time coming, I think I have been waiting now for about two years, so I’m hungry for this fight.
“Words can’t really describe my excitement for this fight. I’m going to be explosive and I’m going to show my speed.”
In preparation for her debut, the super flyweight has been sparring with some experienced boxers including Swindon’s Bec Connolly, who has fought stars such as world champion Terri Harper, Olympian Tasha Jonas and Walsall’s Rachel Ball.
“Sparring wise, I’ve sparred all of the professional lads in the gym,” she added.
“I’ve also been sparring with Bec Connolly, she is quite well known in this area because she has been in some big fights. So we’ve had some great sparring, we are just getting ready for this fight and I’m really looking forward to it. I can’t wait to go in there and show everyone what I can do.”
Neilson Boxing Promoter Mark Neilson says he is eagerly anticipating Megan’s debut after hearing good things about her from people within the sport.
“It’s great that Megan will be making her debut with us, and we are really looking forward to seeing what she is capable of,” he said.
“I’ve heard a few people say she is one to watch and I know she has been sparring with some good professionals as preparation.”
