Melksham businesses and organisations are lining up to support Wiltshire’s biggest Careers Fair, which is being run by MP Michelle Donelan to showcase local skills and opportunities.
The event will take place on Friday 16 September at the Olympiad Leisure Centre in Chippenham, from 10am to 1pm. The event is free to attend, is open to the whole community and no ticket is needed.
As well as helping young people from local schools to pick a quality career path, the event is also designed to help those who are out of work, those who are looking to reskill or upskill, and those who would like a change in career, but don’t know where or how to start looking.
Pupils from the Sixth Form at Melksham Oak will be attending, along with other local schools from the area. Melksham Oak recently celebrated an impressive set of A Level and GCSE results.
“Employers from a huge range of industries have signed up to attend, and some of those organisations attending from Melksham, or with jobs in Melksham, include: Knorr-Bresme, Avon Protection, Goughs, Wiltshire Police, Autonomy Care Group, Waitrose, Aldi and Tesco. All of the 65+ employers attending have opportunities available in the local area.
On the day you can find out more about current vacancies and how to apply, discover apprenticeships, degree apprenticeships and graduate schemes, ask any questions, and find out more about working life at some of the biggest and best employers in Wiltshire. Google will also be providing CV advice and digital training to help attendees who are on their job search.
Wiltshire College & University Centre are sponsoring the event and will be on hand to talk about the wide range of courses on offer across their campuses, including apprenticeships, degree apprenticeships and new T-Levels in the Business & Administration, Education, Engineering & Manufacturing, Health, and Science sectors. Those interested in applying to Wiltshire College, or finding out more, can do so online at: www.wiltshire.ac.uk.
Arralis and Wavin are also sponsoring the event, and their teams will be there on the day to talk about the range of opportunities at their local sites.
The Rt Hon Michelle Donelan said: “My Careers Fair is the perfect opportunity to bring the community together with a huge range of local employers, including those based in Melksham, or with jobs in Melksham. From opportunities with small, independent businesses, to some of the largest employers in the county, this is a showcase for local talent and industry.
“As well as helping those young people who are thinking about which career path is right for them, the event is also about helping local people who are out of work, those looking to reskill or upskill, or even those who are looking for a change of career, and I’d love to see as many people as possible there!”
Mike Gleaves, CEO of Arralis, said, “I’m delighted that Arralis are able to support the local Careers Fair in Chippenham. As a growing technology company here in the town, we hope to be able to contribute to the local community and economy by providing highly skilled jobs to local residents. We are an expanding company in the high-growth satellite industry, and our rapid growth means we are expanding our team of engineers, technicians, operatives and administration staff, and we participate in the degree apprenticeship scheme.”
