A Melksham care home held a Christmas lights switch-on recently for residents, families and neighbours.
The evening, at Blenheim House, part of the Berkley Care Group held the ‘Big Blenheim Switch On,’ marking the start of the festive season with music, live animals and snowfall effects.
Visitors were invited to enjoy mulled wine, hot chocolate and mince pies before following a sensory light tunnel through a festive light show, complete with falling snow, leading them to a live nativity scene provided by Chloe’s Farm under the gazebo.
Guests were treated to performances from the Melksham One Voice Choir and the Calne Silver Band, whose centenary year made their appearance particularly meaningful. Their blend of carols and Christmas classics filled the garden with warmth and harmony.
A highlight for many was the arrival of Santa, played by Melksham resident Mr Derek Baylis, who came laden with gifts for visiting children and families. Melksham’s Mayor Saffi Rabey also attended the evening.

The Christmas tree for the event was donated by Leekes Store of Melksham, whose ongoing support helped bring the switch-on celebration to life.
Blenheim House’s Events Manager, Chris Preston said, “It was a truly magical evening. Seeing residents, families and our community come together with the mayor, the town crier, local performers and volunteers was incredibly special.
“The live nativity, the snowfall, the choirs and the band made it feel like the start of Christmas in every way. We’re so grateful to everyone who helped make the Big Blenheim Switch On such a success.”
