After losing the toss, Melksham were forced to bat first for the first time this year.
The home side got off to a solid start but when it wasn’t until Russ Collins joined Matt Hunt at the crease after losing a couple of wickets that Melksham were able to assert their control on the game.
With both batsmen regularly finding the boundary, they were able to build a fine partnership of 97 before Hunt fell for 68, swiftly followed by Collins for 51. With a strong foundation set however, the remaining Melksham batsmen were able to chance their arm and score freely, with the rest of the lineup able to take the score to 222 at the end of their allotted overs which would prove to be a formidable score to chase.
In reply, Blunsdon found runs hard to come by as the Melksham bowlers kept things tight. It was the introduction of Gary Ings to the bowling attack that truly changed the game however, as he took 6 Blunsdon scalps in a row to finish with 6 for 26 from his 9 overs, leaving Blunsdon’s hopes of victory in tatters. Charlie Waylen finished the innings off with 2 wickets from his solitary over for Melksham to claim their second win from their first 3 completed games.
