ANOTHER all-round team performance from Melksham gave them the winning feeling to end the season, as they beat Goatacre 3rds in the final league game of the year.
After losing the toss and being asked to bowl, Melksham had a great start as Gary Ings hit middle stump with his first delivery, although wickets after that were hard to come by.
Goatacre started getting some momentum into their innings as first P.Turner (27) and then M.Atkinson (59) found the boundary fairly regularly and after a couple of quick wickets, Goatacre really upped the run rate as L.Stoneman (26) joined Atkinson in playing some strong shots to the boundary.
Melksham regained some control over the game however as Ed Skippings quickly dismissed both batsmen after coming into the attack, which caused Goatacre’s lower order to collapse soon after, with Chris Long bowling well to take 3 wickets.
Melksham’s reply was once again built around the batting of Matt Hunt as the stand-in skipper continued his good form with another good knock, finally falling for 48, and with four other Melksham batsmen contributing with scores of 20+ Melksham got over the line to secure 3rd place in Div 5 to cap off a brilliant season on the pitch.
