‘THE force’ was well and truly in Melksham on Saturday when fans of all ages gathered to celebrate their love for a galaxy far, far away.
The day, Saturday 4th May, is celebrated as Star Wars Day because of the famous Jedi phrase “May the Force (Fourth) be with you.
“We’re really pleased with how our first Star Wars Day went,” said Kevin Farrow from the Assembly Hall. “I would have liked to have found more sellers, but I’m sure that will change for next year!
“Still, there was an amazing variety of Star Wars goodies for sale, including custom-made droids and a full-size Han Solo in Carbonite, plus figures and playsets from Melksham’s retro toy shop, The Toy Moon.
“Anyone there will have seen Darth Vader and (mini) Darth Maul keeping watch on proceedings, plus a Mandalorian catching passers-by in the Market Place.
“We also had prizes for fancy dress, Star Wars colouring and VR headsets to practise your Jedi skills. Plus of course, there were our special guests Hugh Spight and Danny Darcy, both of whom appeared in Return of the Jedi, and David Cromarty from The Force Awakens and Rogue One.
“All three were fantastic, chatting to fans and signing autographs, before answering questions and telling tales from their years onscreen in a Q&A panel in the afternoon.
“Following the Q&A, we wound up the day with a screening of what is often considered the best film in the whole Star Wars saga, The Empire Strikes Back, which some people arrived especially for.”
