A MELKSHAM couple are celebrating after their son was confirmed as the first born in Wiltshire in 2015.
New parents Aidan Alford and Jemma Last were left waiting for baby Braydon to be born as he was due on 17th December but did not arrive until 2.07am on New Year’s Day – making him the first born in Wiltshire.
Braydon is the couple’s first child and they are delighted that he arrived on New Year’s Day and will have a birthday to remember. Jemma said, “Initially when he was a few days late we feared he might be born on Christmas Day, a day not really ideal for birthdays but now he has a New Year birthday which means it will always be celebrated and he will always be the first in Wiltshire in 2015.
“We knew he was the first born at the hospital as the nurses told us and immediately gave us a blanket with a tag to say he was the first in 2015 and then early the next morning I had a call from the BBC to say they had called all the hospitals and he was the first in Wiltshire. Before we knew it we were being interviewed live on the radio.
“Dad, Aidan added, “We think it is great as we will keep the cuttings from the newspapers and recordings from the radio meaning he can look at them and listen in years to come.
“We have been told that the first in the UK was in Wales and that baby was born at 12.17am so it’s possible Braydon is in the top ten or twenty.”
