MELKSHAM Fawns under-12s girls’ rugby team has won second place in a tournament against five other local teams.
The Fawns hosted the tournament at their home ground, Oakfield Stadium, and showcased their skills and passion for rugby in front of a large crowd of parents and supporters.
Head coach, Scott Simmons, said, “I was genuinely pleased to witness the turnout of teams from across the area for our tournament. The Fawns truly showcased their best qualities – teamwork, selfless commitment, and heart. This season has presented a steep learning curve for our players, with nearly 50% being newcomers to the game. Their achievement of second place in this tournament is a testament to their dedication.”
Over the course of the Fawns’ first season, the team has grown from having 14 players and five coaches to now having 26 players, nine coaches, two international games under their belt and a trip to Twickenham.
One of the players, Hope Baldwin, said, “It was amazing to see so many girls’ rugby teams coming together. I’m proud of every single girl who turned up. Everyone played really well. It felt awesome to score two tries in a row at one of my last games of the season!”
