A MELKSHAM girl who won a local competition to design a special coronation cake has had her winning entry created in real life sponge.
Silver Sieve Cakes, a Melksham based cake making business, ran a competition during the Easter holidays asking for children to submit their designs along the theme of the coronation. The lucky winner would then have their design made into a cake.
Seven-year-old Evie Eatough, who is a pupil at Bowerhill Primary School, won with her design of King Charles III wearing his Coronation outfit.
Evie said, “I felt really happy when my mummy told me I’d won the competition. I was so excited to see the cake and share it with my family and neighbours at our coronation street party.”
Alison Mills from Silver Sieve Cakes said, “I ran the competition over the Easter holidays as I thought it would give children something free to do during the wet weather we’ve been having!
“I received 70 entries from children aged five to 15 years old and the standard was excellent! I was looking for originality in design, flavours and a good level of challenge for me as a cake maker!
“I chose five runners-up who will receive a Coronation Cupcake and the winning entry was presented with their design as a real cake! I thought the competition would be a nice way to mark such a special occasion.”
Evie’s mum Rachel said, “Evie is good at drawing and is pleased to win the competition! It was a shame to eat the cake because the design was so good.”
