HAVING kept Melksham clean and tidy for 16 years, Ian Knight has swept the streets for one last time.
Ian, who has been a familiar face on the streets of Melksham for 16 years and has worked for Wiltshire’s council for 33 years, was told two weeks ago that he was being made redundant.
Ian said, “I do feel quite frustrated because I’ve worked for the council nearly my whole working life. It’s not going to be easy to find another job.”
Ian moved to Melksham four years ago from Trowbridge where he was the groundsman for Trowbridge Park. He continued, “I have very much enjoyed my time as a street cleaner in Melksham. It’s a great town full of lovely people. I’ve made some really good friends along the way and will miss seeing familiar faces during the day. Melksham has a brilliant community spirit which is lacking in a lot of other towns, it’s a fantastic place.”
