A Melksham man, was seriously injured while cycling on the A419 near Blunsdon on the morning of Friday 17th July, is in a critical but stable condition in hospital.
The man, who hasn’t been named, was riding his pedal cycle to the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford at approximately 9.08am when the incident happened. It was initially believed that the man, who was carrying numerous paniers and bags filled with camping equipment on his bike, had collided with a lorry.
However, officers now believe the cyclist lost control of his bike and fell into the carriageway.
As a result, he sustained a serious head injury and collapsed lung. He was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol by air ambulance. The road was closed for approximately three hours while an investigation was carried out at the scene.
