A MELKSHAM monster truck driver is currently appearing on Sky 3D as part of a television series.
The series follows Tony Dixon as he drives his monster truck known as ‘Swamp Thing 4×4’.
He performs at vehicle rallys and shows across the country, as well as performing stunts at Santa Pod raceway in Northamptonshire.
The television series will follow Tony and his team and shows what goes into making six new monster stunts. It shows the work in progress from the planning, building, testing and then doing the stunts in front of live audiences.
The truck itself was built in 1994 and has been renamed and refurbished on numerous occasions with its distinctive alligator paint job. It stands at almost 12 feet tall, weighs over 5,000kg and performs daredevil stunts such as jumping over cars with Tony behind the wheel.
The six-episode series called ‘Monster Truck 3D’ began on Sunday 12th May with back-to-back programmes being aired on Sky 3D channel 170 every Sunday from 10.00pm. The last episodes will be shown from 10.00pm on Sunday 26th May.
Tony said, “Seeing monster trucks on TV at Christmastime during the early 80s inspired me to one day own my own monster truck.
“It’s great to have the coverage and I’m sure it will make great viewing.
“There will be a 2D version out later in the year so hopefully lots of people will see it.”
The 2D version of the show, called ‘Monster Truck Mania’, will be broadcast on the Discovery Channel in the UK later on in the year.
