IT’S all systems go for another spectacular Christmas Lights display in Melksham this year.
“We’re planning to put on another great display for the town this year to hopefully cheer people up,” said Paul Weymouth from the Melksham Christmas Lights Group. “Our aim every year is to try to improve the display and so we’ve got a few new ideas planned!
“We have had a few problems getting a few supplies, but we’re hopeful that everything will come together. Our team will be out in Melksham, starting work in the next couple of weeks.”
In previous years, the Melksham Christmas lights been hailed as the ‘best in the west’, with the display in the Market Place and around town dazzling local residents and visitors alike and Paul is hoping this year’s display will be even better.
The Big Switch On of the lights will be on Saturday 4th December when revellers can also enjoy the annual Christmas fayre in the Market Place and Assembly Hall. There will be a variety of stalls including gifts, handicrafts, tombolas and raffles, food, live music, children’s fairground rides and games. Father Christmas will also be in his grotto at the Town Hall, ready to meet the children of Melksham.
Miriam Zaccarelli, Community Development Officer at Melksham Town Council said, “Saturday 4 December will see the Market Place and Assembly Hall once again full of Christmassy food, drink and gifts, with fairground rides and something for all the family. Father Christmas is also looking forward to visiting Melksham, where he is happy to join us in following our covid safety guidelines (the elves are having a nightmare trying to knit him a mask that fits around this big ol’ beard!)
“The Fayre is open from 1pm to 5.45pm, with the much celebrated Melksham Christmas Lights being switched on at 6pm.”
