Melksham RFC were the victors at the Calne ground 20 – 29.
Calne were first on the score board with a penalty against Melksham for entering at the side of a ruck. Calne produced a strong forwards display at the scrum forcing Melksham’s pack and the No.8 Phil Williams to find ways to limit this advantage.
After battling on for 30 minutes, a quick reaction from Dave Dyke gathered an intercepted pass, going in under the posts, Rob Bailey adding the conversion. Following the forwards contest Jerry Flower scored from a catch and drive, Bailey adding the extras.
Just on half time Calne rallied with a ball out to their pacey winger scoring a converted try to bring the score to 10 -14.
Both sides restarted the second half with purpose, Melksham striking next with a run through the centre by Dave Dyke scoring his second, Bailey converting. The momentum with Melksham saw Phil Williams securing the ball and driving over for five more points taking the score to 10-26.
Calne sustaining the pressure in their half, now had their turn with an interception, running the ball all the way in for a try and conversion in front of the posts.
In the final quarter, both teams yielded a penalty each to bring the final score to 20 -29.
