Melksham Rock ‘n’ Roll Club is facing an uncertain future as it struggles to attract enough people through the doors.
The club, which has been bringing the sounds of the 50s and 60s to The Assembly Hall since 2002, has hosted an impressive 270 dances featuring 119 different bands, attracting enthusiasts, not just from Melksham, but from much further afield.
Other than a brief pause during the Covid pandemic, the music has never stopped but organiser Geoff Mitcham says the club is finding it increasingly difficult to stay afloat.
“We’ve barely been breaking even over the summer,” he told Melksham News, “and unless things pick up, we might not be able to continue. It would be a real shame to see the club close after 23 years.”

Geoff is urging local residents and fans of rock ‘n’ roll and live music to show their support by coming along to the next dance on Friday 23rd August, which features Tex & The Troubadours and Jason’s Jukebox.
“It will be a great night out with a friendly, welcoming atmosphere; if you’re up for a jive, bop or dance – or if you just want to listen to some great rock ‘n’ roll – please pop along!
“We offer live music from top bands; and Tex & The Troubadours are a really first-rate; it will be an authentic roll ‘n’ night, a throwback to the 50s and 60s that you won’t get anywhere else locally.”
Tickets are £14 and are available from Melksham Town Hall, Melksham Tourist Information Centre or on the door or contact Geoff on 07779 330042 or by email at geoff@melkshamrockandroll.co.uk
