MELKSHAM Rotary Club recently held its biannual cheque presentation evening where £10,500 in grants was presented to a number of local groups.
15 charities and organisations benefitted from the charity initiative, which sees money raised through the Art House Cafe and redistributed in the community.
Melksham Rotary Club president Sarah Hiscocks said, “Recipients this time included The Amber Foundation which has plans for solar panels going on its narrowboat, and the investment of some gym equipment; members of Melksham Food Bank told us that since 2012 the need for food parcels in Melksham has doubled so their cheque will be make quite a difference; and it was lovely to meet Fidgely, the hearing dog who has made a huge difference to the life of Frances in so many ways.
“Each of the stories told were humbling and moving, showing that the donations are really needed and appreciated.
“Local groups and organisations can apply for grants from the Art House profits, whereas Rotarians run special events such as the annual Big Breakfast and a Beaujolais Nouveaux evening to be able to donate to international projects.”
The next cheque presentation evening will be in June 2016, and there are application forms available for any local groups or organisations who would like to submit a bid for funds.
