Melksham schoolboy Elliot Burbidge is back in form after being injured for nearly six months.
The 15 year old was recently competing at the Gloucestershire Judo Junior open. He came away with a well deserved silver medal after moving up to a higher weight group, from the under 60kg class, he was also asked to fight in the under 66kg class where he won the gold medal.
Elliot said, “I am really pleased with my performance, it has been a long time since I fought last, due to injuries, and I’m glad I’m back ready for the National championships next month.” Elliot will have one more event in Worthing later this month to get him ready for the National Championships held in Sheffield, fighting in the heavier weight group.
His dad and coach Mark Burbidge said, “Seeing him fight again after such a long time away from competing was brilliant. He won four of his five fights by ippon (the equivalent to a knock out in boxing) and only just lost to a player who has been fighting in that weight group for quite a while, winning a lot of events.
“We would just like to thank all the people involved in helping Elliot out on his recovery and getting him back onto the Judo mat.”
