Melksham Scout HQ recently hosted the annual Beaver Challenge, where seven Beaver colonies from across the West Wiltshire District took part in various activities to win a chance to carry the District Beaver Flag at the St George’s Day Celebration in April 2025.
The challenge was held on Saturday 22nd June, at the Melksham Beaver HQ on Bath Road.
There were a wide variety of activities, ranging from rope football to ‘Rescuing Fred’. “The human buckeroo also proved most enjoyable to watch as well as take part,” says assistant district commissioner Anne Cranham.
“Teamwork was much needed with building a tower, Yale locks and making the map,” says Anne. “The football and pea challenge needed patience and skill. ‘Rescuing Fred’ took all teams to all levels of skills. A refreshment break was needed halfway through and the Beavers resumed with renewed vigour.”
Beavers from Hilperton, Warminster, Bowerhill, Southwick and North Bradley, Westbury and Bradford on Avon, all took part in the event, with the 1st Hilperton Beavers winning the chance to carry the flag next year.
