COFFEE mornings across Melksham have raised hundreds of pounds for a national charity.
Macmillan Cancer Care held their annual ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ charity fundraiser, with Melksham venues joining in the initiative, which took place on Friday 30th of September.
Melksham Baptist Church raised £393.06 beating last year’s total of £290. Pastor Tony Brown said, “We are thrilled to raise so much for such a worthy cause.”
Kavanaghs Estate Agents raised £275. Branch manager Colin Chalk said, “Kavanaghs are very proud to be part of such a worthwhile cause. We had a fantastic turnout and would like to thank all our clients and the local community for their generous donations and support.”
Tops Hair Salon raised £200, Nationwide raised £120 and Sadie Peerman and Carly Brooking raised £200 from their coffee morning at The Kings Arms. Carly said, “We would both like to say thank you to The Kings Arm for letting us use their function hall for free and providing tea and coffee. It was very generous of them and we’re very grateful.”
Gillan Hobbs made and decorated two fruit cakes for a raffle at Forest Community Centre which raised £205.
Tessa Doe organised a coffee morning at Seend Community Centre raising £620 with donations still coming in. Tessa said, “We would like to thank all those who helped on the day, who baked cakes, donated raffle prizes, participated in the bring and buy and generally supported the day (including Waitrose who donated a raffle prize). The morning was busy and buzzing and well worthwhile. Countrywide and Waitrose kindly donated a raffle prize and Seend Wine Circle also collected for Macmillan the following evening which is included in our total.”
