Melksham’s impressive run of form which has seen them undefeated in their previous seven games was extended further after a comprehensive win over league leaders Odd Down.
The visitors arrived at The Conigre boasting an amazing run in the league which had seen them undefeated since their opening fixture back in August but left with nothing to show for their efforts.
The first half was a cagey affair with the game dominated by the match official who deemed it necessary to caution Bennet, Perrot and Hiscocks from the Town ranks in quick succession and Guy from the visitors and left both managers frustrated at the break.
Town started the game on the front foot and Bennet and Stradling went close in the opening quarter whilst Simpsons dangerous looking cross gave signs of the visitors attacking presence early on, but both sides defended well and the scores were level at 0-0 at the half time interval with the teams evenly matched.
On 55 minutes the tide started to turn in the homeside’s favour when leading scorer Gary Higdon was introduced from the bench for Barnett and Stradling reverted to a wide right position.
On 69 minutes Melksham grabbed the all important first goal much to the delight of the home fans. The goal scored by Ben Thomson with his right foot came after a cross from Higdon and laid the platform for an impressive last 20 minutes from Melksham.
Melksham pulled 2-0 ahead on 79 minutes when Stradling pulled the ball back to the edge of the box where Jake Hiscocks, returning to the side for his first game since September, guided the ball home .
Things went from bad to worse for the visitors on 85 minutes when Stradling, Ricky Hulbert and Higdon combined to leave Stradling with the opportunity to stroke home the third goal and give Melksham a 3-0 lead. At that stage both Stradling and Thomson was replaced by Baggs and Forester.
On 89 minutes Town keeper Brown dived bravely at the feet of the on rushing strikers to preserve the clean sheet and Simpson picked up a caution for his challenge.
The final goal came as the game entered injury time when substitute Keiran Baggs powered down the right flank and his cross was powerfully half volleyed home by Higdon into the roof of the net to leave the final score as a 4-0 victory to Melksham Town .
