MELKSHAM Town FC has offered local team Forest Renegades FC a lifeline, to save the club from folding, when they were ‘kicked off’ their pitch due to ‘unforeseen circumstances.’
The grassroots club, who play in the Bath and Chippenham District Sunday League, said they were ‘struggling’ to find another pitch when Melksham Town FC saved the day.
“As a community club and with our history of trying to help people and clubs out, we have agreed for them to use our training pitch on a Sunday morning when the pitch is playable and available,” says Melksham Town FC chairman, Darren Perrin.
A member of Forest Renegades FC, Kieran Powell said, “Following the decline in grassroots football pitches available for adult clubs it has left adult clubs to scramble for pitches. Over the past 10 years we have seen Atworth playing field and Broughton Gifford playing field lose football pitches and most recently Stanley Park in Chippenham and Beversbrook in Calne have refused to have adult football at their facilities. Without Darren’s help, Forest Renegades were likely to fold like many other teams have in the past.”
