Dorset and Wilts Central Division Melksham RFC 31 – 10 North Dorset II RFC
MELKSHAM took on North Dorset II in a heated league contest on Saturday 12th November.
Stand-in captain, Lewie Simmons, led the boys out on a bright November Saturday afternoon.
The unavailable first captain Niall Cooper, was suffering with a knock, but was present on the side line. The boys started the game unlike matches previous, at a rate of knots. Some fantastic early phases, saw Melksham’s number eight, Nick Suter, break the line and throw a soft inside ball to Chris Partt, who collected expertly to then run over the line for the first points.
This was converted by fly half for the game, Aaron Hall, which soon saw Joe Parsons go over the white wash shortly after, with a superbly worked try. Matters got difficult at 30-minutes, as one of Melksham’s stand out players this season, Charlie Radcliffe, was given his marching orders and a red card for a high tackle, leaving Melksham to have to play with 14 men for the remainder of the game.
The boys rallied round each other and showed some incredible heart defending for their lives and playing some tight and more precise rugby in the right areas. Despite being down to 14, Melksham came out the blocks in the second half and blew North Dorset away. The introduction of Scott Simmons brought some real class to the midfield, who went under the posts.
Shortly after, put Nick Suter away to again score for the Melksham blue. Connor Randall, taking over kick responsibilities, sent a perfect weighted conversion from the far left, sending the Melksham faithful into cheer. A final try from Melksham stalwart and club legend, Aaron Brailey, sealed the win with a wonderful forwards try. A massive thank you to our 1st team match day sponsors A.L. King Roofing.
