SEMINGTON Parish Council has dedicated a memorial bench to mark the centenary of the signing of the 1918 armistice.
The new bench is located next to the 10 trees planted last year opposite the West Wiltshire Crematorium in Semington, which also mark the Armistice centenary – one tree for every soldier that died during World War One.
A plaque on the bench lists the names of the 10 soldiers, and the names of two soldiers from the village who also served during World War One, but died shortly after the war ended.
Semington parish councillor, Steve Rimmer said, “Everything went well at our dedication event. Prayers were led by Rev Joy Albone of the Canalside Benefice, and we had British Legion standards from Melksham and Edington in attendance.
“Bev Woodward baked us a cake using a recipe for ‘Red Cross Cake’ dating back over 100 years. And we sang ‘Abide with Me’ and later ‘Tipperary’ and ‘Pack up your troubles’.”
