Melksham’s mini rugby players recently hosted the Minis Rugby Festival, with nearly 300 players from the local area taking part to showcase their passion, skills and love for rugby.
The event featured four mixed teams from Melksham, Devizes, Corsham and Avonvale playing matches against each other.
Melksham’s Mayor, Cllr Tom Price, attended the event and was impressed by the skills exhibited by all the players.
“It was so fantastic to come and see youth rugby at its finest on display in our town. I certainly wouldn’t want to be tackled by any of them!” says Cllr Price. “A massive well done to minis lead coordinator Alyssa for organising a brilliant event. The minis players played with the heart and passion you would expect from the game.”
From the U7s to the U11s, organisers described the energy as ‘electric, with smiles, teamwork and plenty of tries all around.’
“What a fantastic morning for our inaugural Melksham Minis Festival! The weather played ball and it was an absolute joy to see so many young players out there, showcasing the heart and spirit of rugby,” says Alyssa.
“A huge thank you to Devizes, Avonvale and Corsham Rugby Clubs for joining us and making the day such a success. Seeing every child smiling as they collected their medals truly summed up what minis rugby is all about.
“We were thrilled to have Mayor Tom Price join us, showing his support for grassroots rugby. His kind words and enthusiasm were so appreciated.
“I also want to give a massive shout-out to Jon and all our amazing parent volunteers. Whether they were quietly managing the car park and kitchen, or a little louder with their whistles on the pitches, their hard work made everything run smoothly. Without them, none of this would be possible.
“Here’s to championing minis rugby at Melksham.”
