A GROUP of dog walkers and local business owner, Tim Carpenter, have joined forces to maintain a local green space for the community.
Thanks to the efforts of the dog walkers and owner of Sparkles Window Cleaning Services, Tim, the old rugby pitch at Melksham House – located next to the cricket pitch – has been mown on a regular basis, and will continue to be until at least the end of the year.
“The area is being used by all the community – dog walkers, families – it’s being enjoyed by all the community,” said Sue Jaffray on behalf of the dog walkers who raised £140 to cover the cost of fuel for the mower used by Tim.
“At the beginning of the year, the grass wasn’t being cut and it had reached knee height in places. So I asked Tim – who already helps to maintain the cricket grounds – if he could help. I did ask Wiltshire Council if they would cut the grass, but they explained that whilst it was on their list of areas to mow, it was way down on the list.
“So in exchange for the money raised by the dog walkers – which goes towards fuel costs for the mower – Tim has been donating his time to keep the area under control.
“And he’s done an absolutely amazing job. It’s an area that would have been unusable, but not now! I want to say a huge thank you to Tim and my fellow dog walkers – we’ve created a space for the whole community to enjoy!”
