TWO Wiltshire School of Gymnastics gymnasts, who train at the centre in Bowerhill, travelled to Stoke on Trent to compete in the National Grades NDP finals, bringing home South West team gold, as well as individual medals.
Martha Green and Jenna Caddy, who previously placed first and second in the regional competition to win their place in the South West squad, helped the South West to the gold team medal and title of team champions in the national grades NDP finals, beating 13 other teams. An unfortunate fall for Martha on range and conditioning kept her out of the individual medals, however she took first place on floor, second on bars and still placed fifth in a field of 55 competitors.
Jenna Caddy, who stuck vault, no wobbles on beam and a determined look in her eye had a competition to be proud of. Jenna came away from her first NDP final with an all-round silver medal.
Approximately 50 girls entered each regional competition, with 14 regions. The girls achieved these places out of approximately 700 gymnasts across the UK to represent the South West. Two further gymnasts from the Wiltshire School of Gymnastics, Alexa Evans and Maya Jakubowski, also travelled to Stoke on Trent on Saturday 19th May to compete in the compulsory 3 national final.
Alexa had an excellent competition, going clean, with the highlight being a 7th place finish on range. Maya only competed on three pieces of apparatus due to an injury niggle, however, finished 12th place on bars with an overall 9.0 in execution.
The South West team placed 6th in the team competition in a competition comprising regions from all over the UK including Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales as well as English regions.
