The Gymnastic SW National and Compulsory Grades took place on Sunday 17th April.
This competition was a regional competition with girls competing from the whole of the South West. It saw 110 gymnasts in total across all grades compete.
The National Grades are set elements/skills put into a voluntary routine. The gymnasts need to compete on the usual Vault, Bars, Beam and Floor and also Range and Conditioning. This exercise tests them on their flexibility and strength. There is a minimum score the gymnasts need to achieve overall in order to pass.
Competing in Compulsory Grade 5, Wiltshire School of Gymnastics had Alexa Evans, aged 8 from Melksham. This was Alexa’s first Compulsory competition. For such a young gymnast, she had a really good competition and finished in 2nd place. She also achieved a distinction.
Competing in Grade 3 , Violet Browne, aged 10 from Trowbridge, had an excellent competition and finished 3rd overall. Violet also achieved a distinction.
Competing in Grade 1 from the school was Nicole Parsons, age 13 from Melksham. Although Nicole made a mistake on the floor exercise she still managed to finish in 3rd place and also achieve a distinction.
Violet and Nicole will now go on to represent the South West at the National Finals competition in Stoke. The top four gymnasts from each grade represent the SW at the National Finals. There is no National Final for Compulsory 5.
