A new initiative offering cooked breakfasts for those in need has been launched by the Melksham Food Bank team following a grant from the town council.
Melksham Town Council has awarded the food bank a grant of £700 to fund the service, which will include two sessions for cooked breakfasts, as well as a special Christmas lunch for their clients.
A trustee of the food bank, Alan McFall, said, “The meals will be especially welcome as the colder weather arrives and are an opportunity for clients and volunteers to sit down, have a chat and enjoy a meal together. To minimise waste, clients must indicate their intention to attend by obtaining a ticket in advance at the food bank.
“The food bank trustees wish to acknowledge the support received from both Melksham Town Council and Wiltshire Council in a year when the operation has been impacted by the increased cost of living, which has created a ‘double whammy’ for its finances, causing both a high rate of demand and an increase in the costs of food supply. This grant is a welcome complement to the donations of food and money from individuals, schools, businesses, other groups and churches that are received regularly throughout the year and on which the food bank is dependent; for which they are particularly grateful. A community undoubtedly pulling together!”
