Melksham could see a host of exciting new events added to its calendar this year, as the town council has explored fresh ideas to bring the community together.
Proposals include a colour run, a confetti battle, and a summer festival organised by the mayor. The council is also considering an event to commemorate the 80th anniversary of end of World War II.
Mayor Tom Price said, “We are exploring the possibility of bringing some exciting new events to Melksham this year, aimed at bringing people together. To mark my time as mayor, I have also been exploring the idea of a summer festival for the town, featuring live music and food. It would be a fantastic way to celebrate our town. These events would be fun, inclusive and something for everyone to enjoy.”
The ideas were discussed at a council committee meeting last year. Cllr Jennie Westbrook described a confetti battle as “really messy, but a lot of fun,” with Cllr Price adding, “Think of a snowball fight with paper.”
Explaining the concept of a colour run, Cllr Westbrook said, “A colour run is essentially throwing coloured powder that becomes a great big colourful experience. These are just ideas.”
