A NEW Japanese and Malaysian restaurant has opened in Melksham and already people are booking tables weeks in advance.
Joyce Chin from Melksham has taken over the Unicorn on Bath Road and has turned it into a restaurant specialising in Japanese and Malaysian cuisine, and for Joyce customer satisfaction is her priority.
Joyce said, “We opened on the 26th September and so far we’ve had really good feedback. In fact I’ve got bookings for Christmas and for January already which is amazing.”
Joyce moved to England ten years ago and has lived in Melksham for two years and has experience of managing restaurants in the past.
She said, “I love food and cooking for people. I love to see people enjoying my food and sharing what I’ve made with friends and family, so it’s really important to me that my customers have the best food and experience when they visit my restaurant.
“All the dishes have been chosen by myself. I’ve decided what ingredients work best and have tried to bring the authentic Japanese and Malaysian flavours into every dish.
“Japanese cooking is very healthy, it’s simple and light but very flavoursome. I have a chef who is from Japan who specialises in Japanese cooking so all the dishes are authentic.
“All the sauces for the curries are homemade every day using fresh ingredients. It is also important that all the chicken we cook is Halal and there is no MSG in any of our dishes.
“If I was to recommend something from the menu it would be the Nasi Lemak. It’s one of the most popular dishes in Malaysia and is eaten all the time by Malaysian people. It’s spicy but without masking the flavours.
“For me, the most important thing is that everything is excellent for my customers. I like to be in the kitchen but I prefer to be in the front of house, chatting and making sure everything is right for them.”
The Unicorn is open seven days a week; Sunday-Thursday 12pm-11pm and Friday and Saturday 12pm – 11.30pm.
