MELKSHAM and District Historical Association have started their programme for this year with a talk about the past industries of Melksham.
Chair of the association Paul Carter said, “Over 100 people attended the opening presentation of our 2023 programme, including five new members and 46 visitors. Peter Maslen, club secretary, gave an interesting and informative talk with images on the past industries of Melksham covering over 150 years of Spencer’s, Hurn Bros., Spiers Transport, Sawtells Feather Factory and Maggs Rope Factory.
“Thanks to those who attended on a very cold night and to those people who reached out with such positive comments both immediately after and by email after the presentation.
“The next presentation is Melksham Clocks and Clockmakers by Julian Parr on Thursday 16th February at Melksham Assembly Hall. Guests are welcome to all our functions at a fee of £3 a session. The membership subscription of £17 is now open.”
